YEREVAN. – EU is more than economic project, it is a political program aimed at creation of a common area that was marked by the fall of the Berlin Wall, French Ambassador Henri Reynaud said during the public lecture on the 10th anniversary of EU enlargement.

He called the 2004 EU enlargement a success, noting that the countries have fully integrated into the European structures being full members of EU.

“President of France Francois Hollande during his latest visit to Yerevan noted that Armenia can have association with Europe thanks to its unique formula. I think it is the weightiest message and is evidence of understanding of historical reality,” Ambassador said, noting Armenia’s “deep European orientation”.

May 1, 2014 marked the biggest enlargement in EU’s history with Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia joining the Union.
