YEREVAN. – Armenia may hold negotiations with Carrefour representatives to bring Armenian goods to the French market, said head of the Union of Domestic Goods Producers.

Vazgen Safaryan is convinced that opening of  Carrefour hypermarket will have positive and negative consequences.

“It will be positive in a sense that we will deal with civilized conditions of trade and affordable prices. However, there is a risk of causing damage to local producers. I think the government should  allocate additional funds in order to preserve competition and improve conditions for local producers,” he said.

With the creation of  network of  “Yerevan – City” supermarkets, small and medium shops closed.

“We should be able to balance our income and losses. Unfortunately, our production is exported mainly to the countries of the Customs Union, particularly Russia. But, in France we have a large community, and I think, in the case of successful negotiations with representatives of the Carrefour, they will be glad to see Armenian products there,” he concluded.

Carrefour will open at Yerevan Mall in Armenia's capital this fall.
