YEREVAN. – Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said there are two symbolic months in the Armenian calendar: May the month of victories and December symbolizing freedom and independence.
“Now we are in a sanctuary where the Armenian people celebrated their victory many years ago. Much later, our generation triumphed in Nagorno-Karabakh ,” Ohanyan said at Sardarapat Memorial.
In May the Armenian people celebrate several holidays. On May 9 in the country marks Victory Day, Liberation of Shushi and NKR Defense Army Day. On May 28 Armenians are celebrating the Day of the First Republic.
On December 10, 1991 Nagorno-Karabakh held a referendum in which an overwhelming majority of the population voted for full independence from Azerbaijan.
