YEREVAN. –  The Armenian leader's invitation to Turkish president to Yerevan on centennial of the Armenian Genocide can be considered as creation of conditions for Ankara to officially recognize the tragic event, political analyst said.

Sergey Minasyan said an invitation is giving Turkish side a chance to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide without serious difficulties ahead of the 100th anniversary, but the point is whether Turkey will use it. 

“The position of Armenian side shows international community and the Turkish society that we remember and mourn, but  authorities are ready to take retaliatory steps by the Turkish state. This may be a prerequisite for creating a more positive environment in the region,” the analyst told reporters on Thursday.

Asked about the reasons for no response from the Turkish side, the expert noted that there will be long discussions in Turkey.

“Yerevan gives Ankara an opportunity to review the future relationship. But we must remember situation in Turkey is rather tense. There will be no prompt response,” Minasyan added.
