YEREVAN. – Eurasian Union needs Armenia not less than Armenia does, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan said.

Without Armenia, the southern border of the Union will be North Caucasus, he said, adding that Armenia provides the Union with a possibility of economic and geopolitical influence on the adjacent regions, including the Middle East.

“Armenia's foreign policy, the national interests are in safe hands of President Serzh Sargsyan,” Ashotyan emphasized.

He is confident the Armenian authorities have not and will not make any decision that may call into question the single economic, military, educational space of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

“The two Armenian states have single space in all fields, except for political where Nagorno-Karabakh officials are making decision by their own,” he added.

The treaty on establishment of Eurasian Economic Union was signed by the leaders of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in Astana on Thursday. President Serzh Sargsyan participated in the meeting of Supreme Eurasian Economic Council and offered to sign a treaty on Armenia's accession till June 15, 2014.
Vladimir Putin, for his part, stressed necessity of signing a document with Armenia shortly.
