YEREVAN. – The risks of industrial fish-breeding on Lake Sevan have not been determined yet, Nature Protection Minister said in the parliament on Saturday. The final position of the ministry will depend on project review.

“If we see that project is not threatening the lake, we will not object. Otherwise, the project cannot be implemented,” Aramyis Grigoryan told reporters.

The Ministry will consider environmental impact assessments in the near future.

The program approved by the government in December 2013 provides for trout breeding in open lake water fenced with nets.

The necessary budget for the program till 2023 is estimated at 66 billion drams (about $162 million) and will include breeding, keeping fish and processing plant. The large part of production (75%) will be exported.
