YEREVAN. – The statement by Kazakhstan's president Nursultan Nazarbayev should be perceived not in the context of Karabakh, but Kazakhstan's relationship, for example with Russia and Azerbaijan, political analyst believes.

Alexander Iskandaryan, director of Caucasus Institute, noted that in fact Nazarbayev did not mention Karabakh, urging Armenia to join Eurasian Economic Union with internationally recognized borders.

“Did anyone think that Armenia will join with other borders or will join with any other territories?  Of course, no. Did anyone think that Karabakh will also join the process of EU association when the talks with EU were underway?” he wonders.

The political analyst said  the NKR has not filed an application for joining Customs Union and the Eurasian Economic Union, because they can not do it, and Armenia will join the Union as Armenia.

“In reality, there is an economically common space between Armenia and Karabakh, and this will remain as it used to be,” Iskandaryan said.

The expert touched upon Nazarbayev's warm congratulations to newly elected Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

“Besides, Belarus was involved in a scandal with Russia, despite the fact that Belarus is in the Customs Union. The Union is a space of constant contradictions between Russia and Kazakhstan, Belarus and Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, and so on. This is the space where some ways of interaction between countries are tried out,” he resumed.
