YEREVAN. – The process of reviewing Armenia-EU relations is not an action that can be started today and finished tomorrow, EU Ambassador Traian Hristea told reporters on Tuesday. 

He is convinced the process primarily covers the Armenian authorities, the Armenian civil society organizations, as well as EU institutions and each of the 28 EU member states.

“Taking into account internal debates in each of the states, we can understand the process requires long period of time,” Hristea said during the launch of “Support to Democratic Governance in Armenia” project.

The process of reviewing and debates is in progress, and this will continue for certain time, the Ambassador added.  As soon as there are results, the parties will have to discuss implementation of the arrangements agreed on in the Vilnius package.

However,  the head of EU delegation warned it could not be done easily and in short terms, since the process involves a broad range of cooperation issues as well as collaboration in particular areas.

The diplomat pointed at continued cooperation with certain ministries to stay in accordance with Armenia's obligations to  Customs Union.

On September 3 Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan voiced country's intention to join Customs Union. As a result Armenia did not ratify the Association Agreement during Eastern Partnership summit held in Vilnius on November 28-29. A joint Armenia-EU statement was adopted.
