U.S. President Barack Obama urged Russian leader Vladimir Putin to meet with newly elected Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko, Gazeta.ru reported quoting AFP.

Obama said he would make a proposal in France where the leaders will gather for the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

The U.S. leader believes Putin must recognize that the Ukrainian elections were legal, and this will help to solve Ukrainian crisis.

Obama, for his part, will meet with Poroshenko on Wednesday.
