Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan on Thursday had a telephone conversation with Russian Federation Transportation Minister Maksim Sokolov, who is also the Russian Co-Chair of the Armenian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

They specifically conferred on the reconstruction of some sections of the Upper Lars border checkpoint.

Underscoring the checkpoint’s role in the Armenian-Russian trade circulation, Abrahamyan noted that it is indispensable to solve the frequently occurring problem of avalanches and landslides in the checkpoint area, since they have a negative impact on the volume of shipments.

“I believe a checkpoint infrastructure improvement program can be implemented, and the Armenian government stands ready to directly participate in the [respective] construction activities,” the PM stressed.

The interlocutors agreed that Russia will set up a working group, which will conduct studies at the Upper Lars border checkpoint in one month, and, afterward, the subsequent courses of action will be determined.
