YEREVAN. – Armenian National Congress (ANC) will not participate in the debates on content of constitutional reforms in Armenia, secretary of ANC faction Aram Manukyan said during the debates on draft reforms.

The opposition representative noted that Armenia does not need constitutional reforms at the moment. He believes the authorities need constitutional transformations to preserve power.

Aram Manukyan emphasized the leadership ruined measures to confront internal and external challenges, to solve economic and social problems, and the country is faced with demographic disaster. Taking into these factors, ANC will not participate in the debates on constitutional reforms.

Representative of Heritage Armen Martirosyan reminded of his party's intention not to participate in the debates, and is present only because he was invited by European organizations. Martirosyan expressed regret that the committee on constitutional reforms is headed by Gagik Harutyunyan, who  is “too close to the clash of interests”.

Martirosyan reminded of rigged elections, noting the illegitimate authorities can not carry out reforms of the basic law. According to Martirosyan, the country needs reforms, in particular transition to a parliamentary system of government, but not in the hands of the current authorities. The opposition representatives appealed to European structures, saying it is wrong to cooperate with the current regime.
