YEREVAN. – The 2014 Trafficking and its Combat Reporting Awards ceremony was held Friday at the United Nations (UN) Office in Armenia.

It is an initiative of the Armenian Council on Trafficking Issues, which is led by Deputy Prime Minister and Territorial Administration Minister Armen Gevorgyan, the Territorial Administration Ministry press service informed.

The award ceremony is an annual event and it was held for the third time.

The objective of this project is to contribute—by way of encouraging journalists and contributors who reflect on this topic—to raising public awareness of trafficking and the combat against it.

“The [Armenian] government underscores the fight against trafficking. In recent years, a systematic work is done in this direction,” Council Secretary, Armenian State Migration Agency Head Gagik Yeganyan specifically noted.

Bradley Busetto, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, awarded the prizes to the winning journalists.

The winners also received cash awards.
