YEREVAN. – Russia has always been trying to preserve balance in relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan, MP Lernik Aleksanyan said during a media conference on Monday.
The MP said the Defense Ministry is serious about the situation in border area, and it is under control.
“I do not think that Azerbaijan's actions are unexpected for the Armenian side. There are problems related to the regional challenges. The shots on border with Nakhchivan were something new, there have been no shots for a long time. This means the adversary pays much attention to the Nakhchivan border, and our security forces are well aware of it,” Aleksanyan said.
He believes the Ukrainian crisis and Ukraine-Russia relations may provoke new developments. Besides, the MP said previously Azerbaijan provoked tension in Nakhchivan when trying to to take serious moves.
“However, Nakhchivan is not the region where hostilities may occur, and naturally this has no relation to Nagorno-Karabakh. This is simply a political, war game having an objective to keep situation tense on the second front line,” he said, adding that Azerbaijan wants to preserve tension on the border with Armenia, not NKR.
As reported earlier, two Armenian servicemen were killed by Azerbaijani snipers last week.
