YEREVAN. – The British Embassy’s annual Queen’s Birthday party took place in Yerevan on Monday (photo).

The event organized by the Embassy was attended by heads of diplomatic missions, members of parliament, representatives of the Armenian foreign office and business circles.

The first thing the guests could see was a photo exhibition telling about activities of the embassy.

Addressing the guests in Armenian language, Ambassador Kathy Leach said she had the honor of meeting the Queen for the first time in May.

“I had the honor to speak with her about Armenia and about great pleasure and honor it is to be Her Majesty’s ambassador here. For me the past 12 months were about partnership. We were working with the British Council, with British business and cultural partners to put our first British Days in Armenia in October,” she said.

The Ambassador noted that this year has a particular symbolism for Great Britain.

“In September we will have a referendum on Scottish independence. The British government believes that Britain together is better together, but we also believe we have to give people living in Scotland a chance to make up their own mind,” she said.

The Embassy decided to support Armenia-Scotland economies and bought Scottish whiskey, Ambassador Leach said, inviting to taste the drink.
