YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Wednesday received Vladimir Yakunin.

Yakunin is president of the state-run Russian Railways company, which has assumed the asset management of the Armenian railways, and he is also chairman of the Board of Directors of the South Caucasus Railway company.

Stressing the high-level Armenian-Russian relations, the interlocutors noted that cooperation in the transport sector is an important component of the bilateral allied strategic partnership between Armenia and Russia.

The President and Yakunin discussed the current state of the Armenian railways, its development prospects, and the course of implementation of the commitments which the Russian Railways company has assumed pursuant to the asset management agreement.    

The head of the Russian Railways company briefed Sargsyan on the investments that are made toward the modernization of Armenian railways, the current activities, and the development projects for the South Caucasus Railway company.    

Serzh Sargsyan, for his part, attached great importance to Vladimir Yakunin’s personal role in the consistent performance of the aforesaid activities, and he stressed that Armenia stands ready to continue the activities toward the improvement of this infrastructure and to implement mutually beneficial joint projects.
