YEREVAN. – Sport and Youth Affairs Minister of Armenia Gabriel Ghazaryan will propose, at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, to exempt Armenia national football squad forward Yura Movsisyan from compulsory military service.
“The acceptance of the Government’s draft decision to exempt Movsisyan from compulsory military service is due to the need to ensure Movsisyan’s participation in the qualifying rounds for the [next UEFA] European Championship.
“With the government’s [previous] decision, Movsisyan was granted a deferment from compulsory military draft until the Spring 2014 recruitment. Since Movsisyan will turn 27 on August 2, 2014, it is not possible [any longer] to give him a deferment from mandatory military draft, or to extend his deferment term, and therefore a need has arisen to exempt him from military service,” the aforesaid draft decision specifically reads.
The Ministries of Defense and Justice as well as the Office of the President of Armenia have not submitted any objections or comments to the draft decision.
