YEREVAN. – The regional stage of public debates on constitutional reforms continued in Ararat Region.

The meeting brought together representatives of self-governance bodies, civil movement and residents of the region.

Addressing the participants, member of special committee on constitutional reforms Hrayr Tovmasyan underscored necessity of transition to parliamentary system of government.

Representatives of NGOs present at the meeting raised the issue of how the Constitution will provide mechanisms for public accountability of officials. In response,  Hrayr Tovmasyan noted that the Constitution must clarify the terms of reference of officials.

The next meeting will take place in Armavir on July 7.
