On Monday morning, the Armenian delegation, led by National Assembly (NA) Speaker Galust Sahakyan, laid a wreath and placed flowers to the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow.  Subsequently, the delegation headed for the Russian Federation State Duma. 

Following the private talk between Sahakyan and Chairman Sergey Naryshkin of the State Duma, the meeting continued in extended format. 

Naryshkin stated that relations between the two countries are deepening further and expressed a conviction that their interparliamentary ties will develop further. He also underscored Armenia’s ongoing Eurasian Economic Union accession process, and highlighted the deepening of the two countries’ cooperation in various international platforms.       

Sahakyan, for his part, highly appreciated the interstate relations, expressed certainty that Armenian-Russian relations are advancing, and noted that the level of bilateral interparliamentary collaboration has risen. In his conviction, the reopening of the railway, which links Armenia and Russia, will become an important stimulus for the prospects for economic cooperation.  

In addition, the NA leader stressed Russia’s constructive role in ensuring regional security, especially, in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. He added that Armenia’s Eurasian integration process will create new prospects for all member states.

Galust Sahakyan also stated that the centennial of the Armenian Genocide will be observed next year and, among other events, an international conference, titled “Parliamentarians against Genocide,” will be convened next April in Armenia’s capital city Yerevan. He invited Sergey Naryshkin to this symposium and to the Genocide commemoration events that will be held in Yerevan on April 24.
