YEREVAN. – Watermelons imported to Armenia do not contain nitrates beyond permitted level, head of phytosanitary inspection Arthur Nikoyan said.

Since 2014 Armenia has not imported many watermelons, Nikoyan said during a press conference on Monday.

“A few batches of watermelon have been mainly imported from Iran and Georgia, and a small one from Turkey,” Nikoyan added.

He emphasized that State Food Security Service did not reveal violations at the border checkpoints, otherwise watermelons would not be permitted.

The increased level of nitrates was registered in the local watermelons, but it was not a massive damage of crop.
