YEREVAN. – Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan pointed the high morale of the Armenian soldiers and readiness to repel any attack.
Defense Minister said had paid numerous visits to the border settlements of Armenia to meet with local residents, and plans to visit Tavush Region on Thursday.
As to the idea of arming civilians, the Minister said it is not necessary. Earlier Armenian president opposed the idea as well.
The Minister also talked about decision of volunteer groups to visit the border, adding that “volunteers are our friends” and the some of them in the army reserve.
“In case of aggression, they will join the army. At the moment the armed forces are fulfilling the task, and there is no need in volunteers. But their visits to the military units and conversations with personnel are very important in terms of sharing experience,” he said.
The Minister also noted that during meetings with diplomats and representatives of international organizations, he has always stressed the need for removal of snipers and creation of mechanisms for investigating incidents.
“We need to focus international community's attention to investigation of the incident and condemnation of the opposing side. Experience shows that there are no violations from our side. Thisis Azerbaijani side that makes violations, and everybody understands this,” Ohanyan added.
