YEREVAN. – UK Ambassador to Armenia Kathy Leach said at the moment the most important thing is to hold a meeting of Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents regardless of whether it will be in Sochi or Paris.
Ambassador Leach said the proposal to organize a meeting of presidents in Sochi was considered during the talks.
“This offer was not a new thing. You have probably seen the statement by American Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick, ” she said during a press conference on Friday.
The diplomat thanked Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan for an opportunity to meet with him, talk to him to understand the reasons for the recent upsurge in violence.
Ambassador Leach recalled the statement issued by UK foreign office where they expressed concern and expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their young men during the recent few days.
Katherine Leach is convinced that currently the main important thing is to support the OSCE Minsk Group efforts to organize a meeting of presidents in Sochi.
“I very much hope that those meetings will find a way of defusing tension at the border,” the Ambassador said.
As to UK's position on the offer by Russian side on possible deployment of peacekeepers in the Karabakh conflict zone, Ambassador Leach said “it is a question for the OSCE co-chairing countries, it is question for Armenia and Azerbaijan, at the moment this is not the question for us”.
