Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 9 met in his residence in Sochi with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Kremlin informs.

During the meeting, the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan discussed bilateral and regional issues as well as  the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh.

"We have a lot of bilateral and regional issues. Our relations have developed and are on the rise," Vladimir Putin said, stressing that there is an element of trust, which is being strengthened in bilateral contacts. "Certainly, we talked about long-standing issues related to the Karabakh conflict settlement."

President of Azerbaijan, in turn, noted that the two countries have a very positive trend of co-operation.

"We very much appreciate it and see Russia as one of our key partners in the international arena. Our cooperation covers a lot of areas related to political interaction and the economic sphere," president Aliyev said.

He added that the Azerbaijani side is determined to increase the potential for cooperation.

"In addition, the issues of regional security and stability in our region are always on our agenda; we will discuss the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which has lasted far too long and needs to be resolved," said the president of Azerbaijan.
