The representatives of international organizations continue to criticize Azerbaijan for violating human rights and curtailing freedom of speech.
Another such criticism was voiced at the 11th South Caucasus Media Conference, which was convened in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi, Contact.az reported.
Speaking at the event, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović reflected on the respective present-day situation in Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan is the only country, which has not permitted some civil society representatives to attend this event,” she noted referring to Azerbaijani photojournalist and blogger Mehman Huseynov’s detention at Baku Airport.
In Mijatović’s words, in actual fact, these detentions are politically motivated.
“I spoke with [Azerbaijan] President Ilham Aliyev on this matter, whereupon several journalists were managed to be released,” she noted stressing the constructiveness of such steps.
