Russia has recently distanced itself from the policy on Armenia-Turkey rapprochement and adopted a new strategy on the deployment of peacekeepers in the region, Manvel Sargsyan, an expert of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies stated at a round-table discussion.
According to him, despite this, Moscow denied such a possibility. Sargsyan stressed another alarming tendency is the Turkish-Iranian rapprochement. “This tendency worries everybody. It is not by accident that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton meant Iran, claiming there are countries not interested in the independence of Azerbaijan, which has declared the unacceptability of deploying peacekeepers in the region,” Sargsyan said. In this context due to the complicated situation in Kyrgyzstan, the expert did not rule out the escalation of situation in the Caspian region on northern border of Iran.
