The international mediators’ proposal concerning Nagorno-Karabakh’s status is incorporated in the documents on the negotiating table, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev stated at the July 13 sitting of the Government, the Habarlar news program reports.

According to Aliev, the international mediators see Nagorno-Karabakh’s status only within Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Nagorno-Karabakh cannot get any status without Azerbaijan’s consent. The Azerbaijani people will never allow Nagorno-Karabakh to be separated. Neither Armenia nor the Karabakh separatists have the right to determine its status. Only the Azerbaijani people has this right, Aliev said.

The Azeri leader then resorted to his favorite militant rhetoric. He stressed that “Azerbaijan’s military might is a decisive factor in negotiations over Nagorno-Karabakh. Any moment we must be ready to liberate our lands from occupants.”

Thus, the Azeri leader once more showed his disrespect for the international mediators’ appeals, the world powers’ leaders – U.S., Russian and French Presidents, as well as U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. They called on the conflicting parties to honor the Helsinki pact, which rules out any possibility of use of force. The Azeri leader also evaded the following question: if it is the Azerbaijani people that has the exclusive right to determine Nagorno-Karabakh’s status why did it fail to do so during the Baku-unleashed war?
