YEREVAN. – The Armenian investigators must conduct a criminal investigation into the Gyumri murder, while Russian colleagues must investigate desertion, lawyer Nikolay Baghdasaryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
According to the international treaty, Russian investigative bodies can carry out actions at the base, but not outside it.
“Thus, they [Russian investigators] were not authorized to detain Permyakov and carry out the search operation. They had to address their Armenian colleagues to act together with the Russian side,” the lawyer said.
On the other hand, the Armenian investigators are authorized to work at a military base since it is politically, geographically and legally on the territory of Armenia. However, in this case they have to attract Russian colleagues.
“Coordination body cannot deal with the investigation, and there are still many questions,” Baghdasaryan said.
