There will be no specific movement in the Armenian-Turkish relations within a year, the director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan told the July 14 press conference. According to him, Turkey’s domestic political situation, in particular the parliamentary elections scheduled for the next summer, will not enable Ankara to make certain steps in this direction.
“Certain meetings and negotiations might take place, but no crucial breakthrough should be expected,” Iskandaryan stated.
As NEWS.am reported previously, Turkish press has been recently discussing normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations and rapid border opening.
On July 6-7, Turkish press spread an interview with Kars Governor Ahmet Kara. The Governor stated that the Turkish Foreign Office had ordered him to provide information on the state of Armenian-Turkish border, land communication between the two countries as well as on how much time the infrastructure renovation may take. Kara stressed that if the two sides reach an agreement, the infrastructure will be restored within a month.
