YEREVAN. – The fact that Armenia-Turkey protocols were withdrawn not immediately prior to April 24, but in mid February is conditioned by domestic political processes, Armenian political analyst Sergey Minasyan said.

Minasyan, deputy director of the Caucasus Institute, said this scenario was predicted by experts, and the public was expecting the move.

“It is not a secret that Armenia's official position on the protocols has been recently conditioned by the position of the Armenian Diaspora and the political force that is actively working in the Diaspora, and in Armenia in particular – ARF Dashnaktsutyun,” he said.

Minasyan believes that President Sargsyan's speech delivered during the UN General Assembly was addressed to Beirut, Washington and Beirut – the Armenian communities located there – rather than to Ankara.

“Support of ARF was desirable for Serzh Sargsyan amid domestic political crisis,” the expert said.

As to the possibility of a new accord between Armenia and Turkey in the future, the political analyst assured that there would be a document sooner or later, for example a document on establishment of diplomatic relations.

However, the expert found it difficult to predict when the new document would appear.
