YEREVAN. – After withdrawing the Armenian-Turkish protocols from the National Assembly of Armenia, we have the opportunity to take a variety of steps, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan told H1 TV.

“We can cancel the signatures altogether, we can also ratify [the protocols]; that is, everything depends on the future developments,” Kocharyan specifically noted.

In the deputy FM’s words, the most important thing is that, in this case, the “ball” is again on Turkey’s court, and it is apparent that the concerned states and the international community will expect steps from Turkey.

As for in whose favor the past six years—since the signing of the protocols—have worked, the Armenian FM noted, in particular: “There appeared the Armenian authorities’ sincere aspiration to normalize relations. And unlike the Turkish authorities, which are constantly guided by preconditions, we have not taken any step contrary to the agreement. As a result of such a demeanor by the Turkish authorities, these six years have worked to the detriment of the normalization process.”

As reported earlier, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Monday addressed with a letter to National Assembly (NA) Speaker Galust Sahakyan, and informed him that he has decided to recall the Armenian-Turkish protocols from the NA.
