The Council of Europe (CoE) Commissioner for Human Rights, Nils Muižnieks, issued a report on the human rights situation in the European Union (EU) countries.

He noted that there are human rights challenges in all EU countries, reported Kommersant daily of Russia.

In addition, Muižnieks especially criticized Azerbaijan for violating human rights, and noted that the most extreme respective situation has been created in that country.

The CoE Commissioner for Human Rights stated that all of his Azerbaijani colleagues—human rights activists, independent journalists—are imprisoned. Nils Muižnieks added that the charges brought against them raise serious doubts, and sometimes, they were charged with being both a spy and a revolutionary at the same time.
