Turkey is alarmed at the lawsuit filed by Armenians, Turkish studies expert Artak Shakaryan told the reporters on Tuesday, commenting on a lawsuit filed by Garbis Davouyan and Hrayr Turabian against the Turkish government and two Turkish banks.  According to him, presently the Turkish analysts try to reassure the society that the issue is of political essence, has no legal basis and that U.S. cannot sue Turkey.

“Turkey was not ready for such developments. They have just started studying the lawsuit. Their responses suggest that they did not imagine that Armenians can demand compensation in this way and in particular can sue the state of Turkey,” he noted. In general, Armenians think that Turks are very clever and the Turkish diplomacy thinks several moves ahead, but the recent development prove the contrary. Turkey will study the issue at least from 6 months up to a year, the expert emphasized.

Garbis Davouyan and Hrayr Turabian, the representatives of the Armenian Diaspora of U.S., have filed a suit against the Turkish government and two major Turkish banks, demanding compensation for real estate and property, including priceless artifacts presently housed in the Turkish museums.
