YEREVAN. – The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs are very concerned about the lack of trust on both sides, Co-Chair from U.S. James Warclick said during a media conference in Yerevan.
His remark came in response to comment what the Minsk Group is doing to prevent anti-Armenian hatred spread by Azerbaijan.
“Restoring trust is not going to happen overnight, it is a long game, a long process,” he said, adding that the Armenians and Azerbaijanis used to live by each other, used to get married to each other.
However, there is a new generation of Armenians and Azerbaijanis who have had no contact with each other.
“We need to change that, we need confidence building measures and people-to-people programs that can begin to restore the trust. And if we are to have a lasting settlement, it cannot be just words on paper. It will need to be based on trust and understanding,” he said.
