YEREVAN. – It needs to be discussed whether the investigative body had taken away Vahan Martirosyan’s passport when deciding on his restraining order.  

The Prosecutor General of Armenia, Gevorg Kostanyan, told the aforementioned to reporters on Monday, as he commented on activist Martirosyan’s crossing the Armenian border.

“The criminal case was launched at the outset, before his crossing the border,” said Kostanyan. “When there were sufficient grounds,he was charged, and a signature [bond] on not leaving [Armenia] was selected as [his] restraining order.

“We have numerous such cases when there are insufficient grounds to keep a man in custody, and it’s not that we can keep a man in custody when there is a crime.”

Vahan Martirosyan, head of the “Intra-national Liberation Movement” NGO of Armenia, recently crossed into the Azerbaijan border, sought political asylum, and gave a press conference in capital city Baku.
