"Opening of the Armenian-Turkish border meets neither the interests of Turkey nor Azerbaijan. This will just untie the hands of the occupier regime," Presidential Administration Social and Political Department head Ali Hasanov told the journalists, Trend News reports.  

According to him, it can also lead to that Armenia will continue to keep an unconstructive position in the negotiations.

"We have brought this attitude to the attention of the Turkish officials. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Abdullah Gul have repeatedly stated that the Turkey-Armenia border will not be disclosed until Armenia comes to a constructive position on the Nagorno-Karabakh. We believe in the Turkish officials and believe the border between Armenia and Turkey will not be opened until all the conditions are fulfilled," Hasanov said.

As NEWS.am reported previously, “Armenia-2010” joint exercise on eliminating consequences of emergency situations within the framework of NATO “Partnership for Peace” will be conducted in Armenia on September 11-17.  Servicemen of NATO 19 member states, including 3 Turkish representatives will participate in the maneuvers.

Turkey officially informed NATO committee on organization of Armenia-2010 exercise that the equipment necessary for the Turkish participants will enter Armenia from the territory of Georgia.

Despite Ankara’s official stance, Turkish diplomatic sources and press wrote about possible opening of the Armenian-Turkish border for NATO maneuvers. In particular CNNTurk reported that the Igdir Governor ordered road conditions to be examined along the Armenian-Turkish border.
