Ankara’s statement on the temporary opening of Armenia-Turkey border during NATO military exercise in Armenia is a show, specially organized for Azerbaijan, Press Secretary of the Republican parliamentary group Eduard Sharmazanov told the reporters on Wednesday. According to him, it is an attempt to exert pressure on Azerbaijan.

“Possibly, it is related to Turkish President Abdullah Gul’s visit to Baku,” Sharmazanov said, supposing Turkey and Azerbaijan failed to agree on a number of issues, thereafter Turkish mass media spread information Turkish army is on the border with Azerbaijan, etc.

“There are many issues the two leaders disagree on, gas price for instance,” Sharmazanov said.

Asked whether Armenia-Turkey border will be open, Sharmazanov stressed if the point is border opening in the light of Armenia-Turkey normalization process, Turkey will act adequately opening the border without preconditions. If the point is temporary opening, that is a mere show, consequently Ankara already decided on the matter.

As NEWS.am reported previously, “Armenia-2010” joint exercise on eliminating consequences of emergency situations within the framework of NATO “Partnership for Peace” will be conducted in Armenia on September 11-17.  Servicemen of NATO 19 member states, including 3 Turkish representatives will participate in the maneuvers.

According to the scenario, after the powerful earthquake in Armenia the water supply and drainage systems of the region are no longer functioning. Means of communication, gas and energy supply systems, as well as infrastructure and means of transport are heavily affected.
