Belarus as a country holding presidency of the Eurasian Economic Union submitted a draft resolution on granting the Union a status of an observer at the UN General Assembly.

The observer status in the General Assembly is granted to the intergovernmental organisations activities of which are of interest to the United Nations, Belarus Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The observer status enables the representatives of an observer organisation to take part in the UN deliberations on the topics within the observer's mandate, including by delivering statements.

During the presentation of the draft, Permanent Representative of Belarus to the United Nations Andrei Dapkiunas, has briefed the Sixth Committee delegates on legal basis for the Union's establishment and functioning, law and institutions of the Union.

The representative of Belarus has also noted the contribution of the Eurasian Economic Union to stable and sustainable economic development of its Member States and the region in general, which clearly resonate with the UN system efforts to ensure sustainable development and to address connected economic issues.
