YEREVAN. - Different heroes of horror films and books are walking along the central streets of Armenia’s capital city:  Yerevan is celebrating Halloween today. (photos)

Many of the young men transformed into story and film heroes told Armenian News – NEWS.am that they have remained loyal to the traditional way of celebrating the holiday, having visited houses and asked for sweets. According to them, they transformed themselves only to have a good time and don’t consider the holiday anti-Christian.

“This is merely a holiday, and we’re celebrating it as we want to feel in the “shoes” of our heroes for at least one day. If they say that the holiday is not ours and shouldn’t be celebrated, let them move only in accordance with Armenian holidays and traditions. Personally, I think that if you like something, you should do it without thinking,” a young man dressed as a vampire said.  

Apart from those who celebrated Halloween in Yerevan, there were also young men who were against celebrating the holiday in Armenia. They were dancing national dances to the Armenian folk music.

Halloween is a holiday which originated in the territory of modern UK. It is based on the ancient traditions of Irish and Scottish Celts. Halloween is annually celebrated mainly in English-speaking countries on October 31. Children dressed in different costumes go from house to house and ask for sweets.

In recent years Armenia has also joined Halloween celebration.
