Ankara was always sincere in reconciling relations with Armenia, Turkish politician, Istanbul university professor Behlul Ozkan stated at a press conference in Yerevan.

According to him, initiating the normalization process with Yerevan, Ankara did not pursue a goal to throw dust into the international community. “On the contrary, Yerevan laid its preconditions while drafting the protocols, but Ankara did not agree on them,” Ozcan said. According to him, Turkey is ready to ratify the document at the moment, if the Armenian side withdraws its troops from some of the NKR-controlled territories.

“This is necessary for the authorities to put right their actions with the Turkish people, as the most part of Turkish society are Azerbaijanis. Even the day the Armenia Turkey protocols were signed in Zurich, the whole Turkish society put the same question, whether the Armenian troops will be withdrawn from the controlled territories,” Ozcan said.

In his turn, an expert in Turkic studies Artak Shakaryan did not share his Turkish counterpart’s views and stressed Turkey used the Armenia-Turkey process to protract time on the eve of Armenian Genocide anniversary. “Entering into the process, Ankara initially realized it would not accomplish it as it conflicts with its interest,” Shakaryan emphasized.
