YEREVAN. – The observers from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) continue getting familiarized with the process of conducting the constitutional referendum in Armenia. 

Head of the observation group of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, Akramsho Felaliev, on Saturday stated the abovementioned at the National Assembly of Armenia. 

In his words, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly observers from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, and Tajikistan are in Armenia, at present.

“Our main task is to become convinced—within the framework of a brief monitoring on the eve of the voting—that all procedures for holding the referendum and tallying the results are in accordance with national electoral law,” Felaliev noted.

In addition, the CIS observers will sign a conclusion on the results of the referendum.

The referendum on Armenia’s constitutional amendments will be conducted on Sunday.

Pursuant to the proposed amendments, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance, and conduct completely proportional parliamentary elections.
