YEREVAN. - Armenia has enough raw material for the production of chips. Andranik Tonyan, founder of Armenian “Zolotoye Testo” company, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Nevertheless, the market first needs technical support: consultation with farmers on which races of potatoes will be better for that purpose, as well as with businessmen concerning the types of conveyers should be carried out. The company is already negotiating with the World Vision on the support in the form of a manufacturing line.

“More than 10 years ago, when one of the first fast food restaurants opened in Yerevan, they tried to get French fries, but couldn’t achieve the needed quality. And now this product is imported. But the market here isn’t small: it’s actually the entire or almost the entire HoReCa (hotels, restaurants and cafes) of Yerevan and not only. And this concerns not only the French fries, but also the potato powder,” Tonyan noted.

The farmers will benefit by handing to such factories the potatoes of not a very high quality and marketable state. “Currently they have to put it in bags with the good ones, not knowing what else to do with them. And this way they will get a new source of income,” the businessman said.
