An important event happened on February 22, 1990: the English government published “Victim’s Charter: Statement of the Rights of Victims of Crime.”

Since that time the world has celebrated February 22 as International Day in Support of Victims of Crimes, as a memorable date meant to remind everybody of the problems of people suffered from violent actions.

The problem of the social rehabilitation of victims of criminal actions began to worry people at the end of the last century, according to Calend.ru.

In September 1985, the 7th United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crime and Treatment of Offenders signed the Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power.

On November 29, 1985, the United Nations General Assembly accepted this declaration.

Today some countries have laws meant to guarantee protection of victims of crime, their rehabilitation and compensation of physical and moral damage.

Up to 200 programs aimed at helping victims exist in the world, and they help people overcome stress and crisis in their lives.

Educational programs, collecting money to help those having suffered from violent and criminal actions, different conferences are held on this day.

In addition,  laws meant to protect these people are adopted on this day.
