Armenia and Russia have launched the practical implementation of the program on extending the operation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).  

Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev told the aforementioned to journalist at the joint statement with his Armenian counterpart Hovik Abrahamyan. 

“This is a unique project. Such projects usually last long, but in Armenia we hope to get through in a 5-year period,” he said.

The work on extending the operation of the Armenian NPP is carried out in the framework of the $270 mln credit tranche and $30 mln grant from the Russian Government. The operation of the NPP will be extended for 10 years, till 2026. The construction of a new power bloc is schedule to be completed by that time.
