YEREVAN. - We have reconfirmed that Armenia is the security guarantor of Nagorno-Karabakh and we will do our best to ensure the safety of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) people.
Ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov said the aforementioned after the RPA Executive body meeting on Friday.
According to him, the meeting mainly addresses the military actions on the Karabakh-Azerbaijani Line of Contact. Besides, President Serzh Sargsyan briefed them on his meetings and their results.
“We think that the issue should be resolved exclusively through peaceful means. The NKR people should be the masters of their fate. NKR cannot have a lower status than it has today. We should reach the international recognition of NKR,” Sharmazanov noted, stressing that the ceasefire is beneficial for everyone, the military solution being unacceptable. “The NKR struggle doesn’t aim at occupying others’ lands: it’s a struggle for the future of one’s country. Which are the main proposals? Our opinion is precise: the issue should have a comprehensive solution and the Artsakh people should have an opportunity to decide their own fate,” he said.
Referring to one of the statements made by President Sargsyan in Germany, on that the Armenian Armed Forces are fighting with weapons of the 80s, Sharamzanov noted that one of the opposition leaders, Levon Zurabyan, correctly understood the pretext of Sargsyan’s speech, i.e. that with weapons of the 80s the Armenian army was able to resist the modern Azerbaijani weapons.
