YEREVAN. – Regular session of the intergovernmental council of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) was convened Wednesday in Moscow, in which the Armenian delegation—led by Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan—also participated, reported Zhoghovurd daily newspaper.

“This session was to be held on April 8 in [Armenia’s capital city of] Yerevan. But due to the [recent] four-day Karabakh-Azerbaijani war, the event was moved to Moscow, since Armenia’s EAEU ‘partner’ countries did not wish to come to Yerevan in those tense days, and offend Azerbaijan.

“There is an impression that the session was held as an obligation and a formality, since it already had been planned. But the ‘charm’ of the session was RF [i.e. Russian Federation] Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s proposal to convene the next intergovernmental council session in a month, on May 20, in Yerevan.

“Apparently, the Russian side has decided to repay its ‘debt’ to the Armenian side,” Zhoghovurd wrote.

The EAEU comprises Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
