Monument to John Lennon will be erected in Liverpool on October 9 on the occasion of musician’s 70th anniversary. Lennon’s first wife Cynthia and their son Julian will open the monument.

John Winston Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool during a German air raid. The Beatles rock band was formed in Liverpool in 1960. The Beatles joined John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The band broke up in 1970.  In 1971 Lennon released “Imagine” track that has become an anthem for anti-war movements.

On December 8, 1980 Mark David Chapman shot Lennon in the back four times at the entrance to the building in New York.
