The UN Security Council condemned North Korea’s fifth nuclear test and threatened to impose new “significant measures” against the country, Bloomberg reported.
The members of the Security Council previously expressed Aan intention to introduce new serious measures in connection with North Korea's nuclear tests, New Zealand’s ambassador to the UN and president of the council Gerard van Bohemen stated. He added that the “members of the Security Council will begin work immediately on appropriate measures”. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon also condemned North Korea's test
Mr. Ban further underlined that in recent years this was the fifth time that the country alone had defied the international norm against nuclear tests, UN reported.
“This unacceptable act endangers peace and security in the region and is another vivid reminder of the urgent need to strengthen the global nuclear test ban regime,” he stressed.
