The Azerbaijani opposition will hardly be able to influence the policy of the ruling Aliyev’s family, said Alexander Markarov, the director of the Armenian branch of CIS Institute, in an interview with the NEWS.am. Alexander Markarov commented on the situation in Azerbaijan on the eve of the constitutional referendum and in the condition of accusations against the opposition of having ties with the West.
The analyst noted, that the ruling forces use both internal and external enemies in order to legitimize their authority. Speaking about the opposition in Azerbaijan, he refers to the remains of opposition, who are periodically subjected to various pressures . According to the expert, everything happens in a classic style, where there is indeed no competition in practice . Azerbaijan 's opposition was earlier fundamentally uprooted, against the background of permanently existing image of enemy - Armenia - and the necessity to establish a temporary enemy in the face of the opposition.
" It is clear that Azerbaijan’s population is displeased, while living in constant fear of the future. However, this dissatisfaction is always under pressure , "said Alexander Markarov , adding that the opposition might undertake some separate actions, but in general, it will hardly be able to influence the policy of the established system.
