YEREVAN. - The Civil Contract Party should have reached agreements and united with Bright Armenia Party during the Vanadzor elections.

Head of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs (AIISA), Stepan Safaryan, said the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.

Explaining the failure of opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan’s party in the elections, the political analyst noted that Pashinyan and Bright Armenia should have known that Vanadzor already has its favorites. “This party exists in the field of political rhetoric, but the results showed that it has fewer chances in terms of winning votes on the ground. Therefore, I think it would be correct if they had reached agreements with Bright Armenia; in that case more voters would have come to elections instead of sitting disappointed at home, and the victory would have been shared between the two political forces. Besides, Vanadzor would have become ‘brighter’ or ‘newer,’ as the mottos mention. From this standpoint, Civil Contract does need to review its approaches,” Safaryan stressed.

Touching on the question as to whether it can be said that Pashinyan’s disassociation from the surrounding of the first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan in no way contributed to saving his political rating, he said:  “If Nikol Pashinyan disagreed with the conduct of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), it was meaningless for him to stay there. From this point of view, it is clear why he moved away and formed a separate political team.  But this doesn’t mean that separating from ANC, Nikol Pashinyan was to win the votes of the radical constituency. This is not the case. Politics requires a correct strategy, which will ensure the votes of the constituency demanding power change.”

Civil Contract Party won 1.48 and 4.08 percent votes in Gyumri and Vanadzor respectively.
