Ban Ki-moon, who is leaving the post of the UN Secretary General, has called the candidacy of the former Prime Minister of Portugal, António Guterres, "a super choice” for the post of the organization’s new head, reports the RIA Novosti. "I know Guterres very well and consider it a super choice, "said Ban Ki-moon in Rome after the meeting with the Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
The UN Security Council's 13 members out of 15 in the sixth round voted for Guterres, who in 2005-2015 was the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, and 2 abstained.
