Relatives of the victims of the March 1, 2008 tragic events intend to go on hunger strike, Alla Hovhannisyan, mother of killed Tigran Khachatryan declared at today’s oppositional rally held by the Armenian National Congress. (as a result of March 1 clashes between police and the opposition 10 people were killed and about 200 others injured, the opposition accused authorities of their deaths).
Relatives of the victims intend to once again raise the issue before the international community to punish their children’s killers.
“Two years passed since our children have been killed in the center of Yerevan before the eyes of civilized Europe. Armenian authorities have been making attempts to hide the murders at all the levels so far, presenting absolutely forged reports to the Council of Europe. We tried to question inactivity of the general prosecutor’s office but our attempts failed. However, we believe that clearance of crime is inevitable. We will go on sit-down and hunger strike to achieve our goal,” she said.
In his turn ANC office Coordinator Levon Zurabyan informed the gathered that the ANC would file a lawsuit to administrative court demanding recognition of the February-March 2008 actions against oppositionists as disproportionate and inadequate. Oppositionist added that the Armenian judicial system cannot be relied on and finally the lawsuit would be filed to the European Court of Human Rights.
The protestors also addressed the Future of Democracy forum, organized by Council of Europe, calling on its participants to adopt statement on release of political prisoners in Armenia.
